Who Is PinUps Hair & Beauty?

PinUps was created by myself when I decided to introduce a specialist wedding service to my business – Vintage Hair and Makeup. I live and breathe the vintage look, lifestyle and fashion and have been in business now for 4 years. I work freelance so I travel to the bride’s home or venue, helping you create that Hollywood PinUp look in the comfort of your own home.Julie Anne's final look

Why Did You Decide To Specialise in Vintage Bridal Hairstyles?

I have a freelance pop up salon, and do WW11 days, exhibitions and vintage seminars etc., but started to receive more and more requests to do Vintage Weddings. As the local salons aren’t familiar with the hair and makeup styles of the 1940’s and 50’s, the vintage weddings have now become a major part of PinUps.The Blushing bride Joanne had a Hollywood theme.

What’s The Most Challenging Wedding You’ve Had?

That would probably be my lady with dreadlocks who wanted a 1940’s Victory Roll. It was a challenge but she got exactly what she asked for. I’m not very familiar with the words “no” and “can’t do”. I’ve been a hair and makeup artist for 15 years, and I’ve seen and created most styles in my line of work. I’m someone who really does cope well under pressure. One of my modern up do's at The Scottish Wedding Show, Secc 2012.

What Can You Offer That’s Different or Unique?

I can offer a transformation that’s old Hollywood glamour. Think Lauren Bacall, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn. My brides never look like the usual contemporary bride. All my vintage-style makeovers are different and unique, and the wedding photographs are always stunning.Gillian looks every bit a vintage blushing bride.

What Advice Can You Offer A Bride Who’s Not Sure What She Needs?

My advice to the bride that’s not sure what she needs would be to have a trial done. This will give her a chance to try different styles, to see which she likes best. During the trials we can do as many hair and makeup looks as a bride wants in order to achieve her dream look.Joanne wanted a Lauren Becall look, and made a stunning bride.

Many Of Us Marry In Our 40’s. Have You Dealt With Brides Of All Ages?

Yes, I deal with brides of all ages and ethnics, as well as the whole wedding party. Flower girls and the Mother of the Bride tend to want a more modern look, which is no problem for me at all.An Elegant Audrey Hepburn Style for Claire's Day.

What Happens In An Emergency – Who Will Create My Vintage Hairstyle?

I’ve worked with experienced girls at various ‘vintage days salons’ for instance, who would happily cover for me. They’d have a full brief of what is required, and I can guarantee that the bride would be in the best of hands. Fortunately, in all my years of makeovers, an emergency has never yet arisen.
